In 2022, we started raising chickens for both meat and eggs.

Our beginnings.

The ideas started!

We started watching videos about homesteading from Joel Salatin and Justin Rhodes. We came across Abundance+ and subscribed to learn even more.

We started building.

We got to work and built a brooder that Joel Salatin from Polyface farms recommended. We then purchased several chicks from local stores.

More building.

As the chicks grew we ended up building a mobile coop called a “ChickShaw” from a design by Justin Rhodes. We loved the idea of moving the chickens around the yard to spread fertilizer and cut down on the smell.

Meat!

We ended up growing some meat birds as well and was able to put lots of meat in our freezers and the quality was much better than anything bought from the grocery store.

It sunk in!

We realized this is the life style we wanted to pursue for our family. Our children were learning lots and we were eating better quality eggs and meat. So The Rising Homestead was born.

Join us as we continued to learn and grow it!

We offer nest run chicken eggs and are looking into providing whole chickens in the near future.

We plan on expanding to growing our own herbs and vegetables and building more greenhouses!
